Rebecca Harrison

Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

Rebecca (she/her) is an experienced and passionate therapist, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) and Credentialed Eating Disorders Mental Health Clinician working with adults and older adolescents seeking help with eating disorders, body image concerns, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders, mood and relationship difficulties. Rebecca helps her clients understand their experiences and themselves, reduce shame and self reproach, and build self worth and confidence. She values bringing compassion, calm, humour and hope to each session.

Rebecca spent several years with the Butterfly Foundation, has provided education and training to health professionals, families, community groups and schools including delivery of Collaborative Care Skills Workshops (CCSW) for carers of those with eating disorders. Rebecca has led implementation of specialist programs and services, delivered consultation, clinical supervision and workforce development in both community and public health settings. She has held clinical roles in eating disorders, general mental health and complex cancers with Royal Prince Alfred, Prince of Wales and St Vincent’s Hospitals.

Most recently, Rebecca was the senior eating disorders mental health clinician, co-leading the development and implementation of St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney’s first specialised public outpatient eating disorders service (EDOS)

Rebecca prioritises non-judgement, collaboration, warmth and flexibility, acknowledging that mental health difficulties happen in context, to resourceful, creative, feeling people striving to adapt to the turns life takes. Each person’s story of how this is going is different, therefore Rebecca can tailor the approach from several evidence based therapeutic interventions including MANTRA, CBT- E, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), SSCM, Motivation Enhancement (MET), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). Rebecca can also draw skills from DBT, Compassion focused and Narrative approaches to support the therapy, Rebecca values neurodivergent affirming care and aims to support her client’s own hopes for treatment, understanding people often experience complicated feelings about change and the difficulties they are facing. She holds a calm, safe space for people to explore and experiment with change and welcomes all stages of this process.

In addition to her Masters qualifications in Social Work, Rebecca has a degree in Philosophy, a Master of Arts (writing) and has completed postgraduate specialisation in mental health and counselling to obtain qualification as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW).

She holds an Eating Disorders credential from the Australian and New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders.

Rebecca has maintained a passion for working with eating disorders, autism and anxiety for the past 10 years and has undertaken,and continues to engage with, training and professional development in these areas of practice, including engagement with the very important contributions that come from lived experience voices.
