John Hristoforidis (He/Him) is a compassionate, warm and highly experienced Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Neuropsychotherapist. He works with individuals and families facing challenges with:
- Disordered eating
- Life’s difficulties and unfairness such as bullying at school, workplace issues or relationship ruptures
- Mental health and mental illnesses including mood, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders and
- Traumatic events, developmental and interpersonal trauma.
John’s work with individuals and families is grounded in relational theories of practice, neuroscience and trauma informed care. John delivers diverse and inclusive:
- Gender affirming and
- Neuro affirming services
- That are weight inclusive and health at every size aligned.
John recognises that change can be difficult, especially when life already feels challenging. His therapeutic approach is grounded in collaboration, choice and empowerment. He works with respect and integrity to preserve, support and strengthen each client’s self-agency, self-determination and right to make decisions about their own care.
John has a Master’s of Social Work Counselling, and is a:
- Credentialed Eating Disorders Clinician (ANZAED);
- Full EMDR Clinical Member (EMDRAA)
- IFS Level 1 Practitioner (IFSAUNZ)
John uses an integrated approach that draws on evidence-based approaches including Anti-Oppressive Practice, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy and Schema Therapy.
John has previously worked as a Subject Matter Expert, External Consultant and Acting Clinical Service Manager at a leading national mental health service, Medicare Mental Health Centres. Previously, John was the NSW Health District Eating Disorders Co-Ordinator where he implemented a Local Health District Action Plan for the Statewide Eating Disorders Health Strategy, providing clinical leadership, consultation, clinical supervision, training and workforce development.

John values providing high quality supervision to allied health staff, and sharing his practice wisdom, knowledge and skills with health professionals. John is the Subject Matter Expert and Lead Facilitator for the Australian Association of Social Worker’s, Introduction to Best Practice Supervision, an award-winning training and education workshop. He also has capacity for individual and group supervision.
